ACTIVITIES AT A GLANCE
ENVIRONMENTAL & GEOSCIENCE EXPERIENCES
In collaboration with the department of Earth and Environment campers will be introduced to this Science by engaging in fun-filled, hands-on experiences. Campers will learn about Geological and Atmospheric Sciences. The Geological Sciences encompasses the history and structure of the Earth, through rocks and minerals, to natural disasters and the environment. The Atmospheric Sciences adds meteorological and climatological dimensions to the basic background across the Earth Sciences.
In an age appropriate learning atmosphere, Campers will be introduced to the following concerns about environmental degradation and its impact on human well-being.
- What factors influence climate?
- Will we have enough usable water?
- What is the nature of the atmosphere?
- What are solid waste and hazardous waste, and why are they problems?

Each week campers will have the opportunity to tour either the Modesto Maidique Campus or the Biscayne Bay Campus and get a real look at what FIU has to offer. Students can experience the Astroscience Center, the Marine Sciences Building, the Nature Trail, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the School of Hospitality Management, the Frost Art Museum, the FIU Law School, tour the College of Medicine, and many others that will give them a feel of the dynamic, can-do energy that is FIU.
SOCIAL MEDIA & GAMING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Campers will have the opportunity to engage in training sessions that will foster creating and sharing of information and ideas and how to use forms of expression via virtual communities and networks. Guest speakers will let campers know about the latest happenings in social media, plus tips on using Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and other social tools on the web. During these sessions campers will have the opportunity to use their electronic devises in an educational surrounding.
ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT
In the spirit of the societies created during the early 20th century in response to the Arts and Crafts Movement, campers will enjoy supervised art & craft activities that cover a wide range of educational subjects while engaging in an array of art projects and DIY activities.
GAMING TOURNAMENTS/ “eGAMING & BOARD GAMES”
Who can play through Super Mario World fastest! Who can participate in an endurance challenge involving Dance Dance Revolution! Who’s a premier chess or checkers player? Campers will engage competitive gaming tournaments that will help develop confidence and critical thinking skills.
LET'S GO FISHING! (Ages 10-13 - Space limited to 20 campers per session.)
Campers in the 10-13 age group will be given the opportunity to participate in a special fishing experience that will engage and educate campers in the art of fishing in South Florida. Campers will learn how to build their own fishing rods.
EDUCATIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Lead Counselors will design and incorporate a fun educational learning experience for all groups under both a traditional academic settings, in the classrooms, or nontraditional settings outdoor, that will create relevant, engaging and memorable educational experiences.
FIELD DAY/FUN WATER ACTIVITIES
Campers will participated in “Let’s get Ready to RUMBLE! This will be a fun filled day of outdoor water activities, sports, and competitions amongst fellow campers. Campers will also learn fundamentals of sports nutrition and dietetics guidelines. Guest speakers will teach campers how important it is to learn at an early age the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat vitamins, minerals and fluids to fuel their personal fitness levels.
Take the “work” out of workout. Campers will enjoy a total workout experience that combines elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility- with a fun energetic experience.
Campers will have the opportunity to participate and connect with teammates in supervised sports activities that include Basketball, Kickball, Soccer, and Volleyball. Campers will learn sports skills, fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship in a supervised environment.
21ST CENTURY SOCK HOP
At the end of Session I, campers will join in the fun and participate in a “21st Century Sock Hop”. We will bring back the dance event for teenagers that started in the mid-20th-century featuring popular music from “then” and “now”.
END OF SUMMER CAMP BASH
Let’s Party! Everyone is invited to an amazing End-of-Camp BBQ Bash. Campers, staff, family and friends will come together to share fond memories and celebrate a great summer. (Minimal charge for family and friends.)
