FIU Music at The Wertheim under the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts has designed a program where students ages 7 to 16 can Sing Out! or String Out! during summer camp.
SING OUT! CAMP
Panther Music Camp Sing Out! allows students to explore singing in every style, including Classical, Musical Theater, Folk Music, Gospel and Jazz. Singers will have the opportunity to participate in A Capella, Jazz, and traditional choral ensembles. For more than twenty years, the FIU School of Music has educated hundreds of performers, scholars, and music educators, many of whom are now leaders in their respective fields across the state of Florida and around the world. This enrichment experience includes exercises to enhance musicianship, live performance, stage presence and movement, and experimentation with songwriting techniques. Housed in the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, the FIU School of Music hosts a breadth of performance opportunities that include orchestral, band, choral, jazz, large and small chamber ensembles, fully-staged operas, and the latest in cutting-edge new music.
SING OUT! CAMP DIRECTOR
Kathryn Kelly Longo is Choral Director and Coordinator of Choral Studies at Florida International University. She has worked as a clinician with local, national, and international choirs. Kathryn taught middle and high school music in Connecticut and New York where she taught voice lessons and directed choral ensembles. An experienced choral director of all ages, she has also held positions with Miami Children’s Chorus and South Florida Singing Sons. Kathryn obtained her Masters degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Oregon, and her dual Bachelors degrees in Music and Education from the University of Connecticut.

Panther Music Camp String Out! allows Intermediate & Advanced String Orchestra students to get a head start on their upcoming school year. For more than twenty years, the FIU School of Music has educated hundreds of performers, scholars, and music educators, many of whom are now leaders in their respective fields across the state of Florida and around the world. This enrichment experience includes exercises to enhance musicianship, live Orchestra performances, All-State preparation and master classes by renowned FIU Faculty. Housed in the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, the FIU School of Music hosts a breadth of performance opportunities that include orchestral, band, choral, jazz, large and small chamber ensembles, fully-staged operas, and the latest in cutting-edge new music.
Intermediate Level students must be able to play Suzuki Book 2 or 3; 2va scales and Arpeggios: C, G, D. (Students will learn all 7 All-State scales and arpeggios in the camp).
Advanced Level students must be able to play Suzuki Book 4 or higher; 3va scales and Arpeggios: C, G, D, F.
STRING OUT! CAMP DIRECTOR
Vivian Ventura is Orchestra Director at Arvida Middle School and is currently enrolled in a Masters Degree of Orchestral Conducting at the Florida International University. She has been selected as "Teacher of the Year" for the State of Florida American String Teacher Association and Grammy Teacher of the year Semi-Finalist. An experienced Orchestral director, she has also held positions as "Strings Orchestra Director" with The Greater Miami Youth Symphony for over 10 years and started the "Orpheus" Chamber Orchestra with MusicAll. Vivian obtained her Bachelors degree in K-12 Instrumental Music Education from the Florida State University. She has performed with various South Florida Symphonies and continues to play as a free-lance violinist in the community.
Campers may register for a one-week program at a cost of $250 or a two-week program at a cost of $470. Registration fee includes enrichment activities and daily lunch. To register select the REGISTRATION tab above. Camp hours: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Aftercare: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
A non-refundable initial payment of $100 per camper will be due at time of registration and may be paid by check or credit card*. This initial payment will apply towards camp registration. Parent or guardian completing camper’s registration holds all financial responsibility for payment of fees on or before due date.
Remaining balance payment options include credit card, money order, or check If you would like to pay by check, you may send payment to the College of Arts, Sciences and Education, Dean’s Office, 11200 SW 8th St., ECS-450, Miami, FL 33199. Checks should be made payable to: Florida International University CSI Program. Please include child’s name(s) on the check.
Cancellations must be requested in writing by emailing email@example.com
Cancellations prior to May 25, 2018 will receive a full refund less $100 initial payment.\ Cancellations between May 26th and prior to June 23rd will only receive a 50% refund.
Cancellations between June 24th and the start of camp on July 30, 2018 will not be eligible for a refund.
No refunds will be issued for missed days or absences from camp. Refunds will not be issued nor camp make-up days be incorporated in the event of absences or natural disasters.
All credit card transactions are subject to 3% non-refundable processing fee per transaction.
